Exporting courses to Garmin Connect (and the Edge 25)

A couple of people have asked me how I uploaded ridewithgps.com courses to my Garmin Edge 25 so here you go:

  1. Open the route in ridewithgps.com
  2. Click export
  3. Click GPX Track (.gpx) and save the GPX file to your computer
  4. Convert the GPX file to a GPX file (yes that is what I mean) with GPSies (a free website to view and download tracks) http://www.gpsies.com/convert.do
  5. Save the new GPX to your computer
  6. Now go to the Garmin Connect website and the Activities page
  7. Click Import, Choose File and select your new GPX file
  8. Click Upload activities from file
  9. Fingers crossed and you will get a green tick rather than the red cross you will probably be familiar with if you have bothered to read this far.
  10. Go to the very end of your Activities list and with a bit of luck you will see an activity dated 01/01/2010 12:00AM
  11. Click into the activity and click the more symbol (a cog on the top right) and click Save as a course.
  12. Rename the course and delete the time data. Then click save.
  13. Open the Garmin Connect app on your iPhone and go to the Courses page. This will sync with the website and you should see your new course.
  14. Click on the new course and then on the Transfer to device icon on the top right. It will then sync with your Edge 25 over Bluetooth.
  15. Final step, go back to the Garmin Connect website and the Activities page. Select the activity you have just imported and delete it. If you don’t do this, you get an error message when you try and import another GPX file in the way described above.
